After leaving school Jim Mullen trained as a journalist whilst playing on the local music scene in his native Glasgow. He formed a group with Malcolm Duncan and Roger Ball (later of the Average White Band) and together they worked throughout Scotland playing Coltrane tunes and some originals.

Regarded highly in the USA, Europe, Australia, South America and of course, throughout the UK, he commands the respect of his fellow musicians and for those who are lucky enough to see him are astounded at his technique.
Jeremy Platt works in the field of jazz and related music. He contributed keyboards and guitar to Frank Felix’ “Tales From the Funky Underground” and has accompanied many UK jazz artists including Jim Mullen and Dennis Rollins. He recorded the piano trio album “Sometimes Saying Your name”.
Adrian Ingram is widely recognised as one of the foremost authorities on the jazz guitar. He has written extensively about the history, players, styles and instruments of the genre.
The HJGS Guitar Ensemble is a group, led by Jamie Holroyd, is part of our regular monthly society events. Comprising of society members the group perform ensemble arrangements of classic jazz standards.
The Charlie Christian Collective, originally formed in 2016, is a group led by guitarist Darren Dutson Bromley. They play tunes associated with Charlie Christian and Benny Goodman.
Darren Dutson-Bromley studied both jazz and classical guitar in Leeds and has worked professionally as a performer ever since. In 1996 he worked for the Princes Trust where he performed with both Prince Charles and Jools Holland, which led to a number of television appearances.
John plays guitar, bass and banjo and has played professionally with various jazz bands throughout the Midlands.
